3 Months Old!

Three months ago today I was recovering from my c-section with my 2 pound 12 ounce and 5 pound 2 ounce baby boys still uncertain if there would be any complications after all the worrying and concerns the medical staff had. Now I sit with my 8 pound 3 ounce and nearly 13 pound (haven’t weighed him this week and was going to today but he didn’t need a bath this morning ha) baby boys. At 3 months here are some things I am noticing the boys do.

Jason: holds up his head really well, smiles, and is starting to coo and laugh, is sleeping through the night here and there (about 11pm till 5 or 6am on good night)
Reece: is still working on holding up the head and just about has it, he has incredibly strong legs for being such a little guy and wants to smile so badly, he too is sleeping pretty good at night but is still in the cars eat/with us because of the reflux

I still haven’t seen them roll over, but they are certainly good “scooters”. They scoot and move around a bunch. Jason can be sleeping one way and come in the next morning and is on the opposite side of the bid facing a different direction. Reece does it too, but just not as fast.

As for any concerns in regards to their health…no not really. Quick recap…Jason is healthy as a horse (and is starting too get as big as one too). Reece had his heart murmur checked out and he has a small hole but the doctors feel that its not anything to worry about and as he grows it will go away. Still have to see the urologist to get his manhood fixed but that’s about as serious as it gets for the little miracle who was at one point given a 10% chance. I sometimes worry about his eyes. I know he can see, but he just doesn’t focus very well still and one eye tends to wander every now and then. From what I have read it takes preemies longer to adjust so I have my fingers crossed that’s all it is!

Happy 3 months boys…you’re a fourth of the way to your first birthday party! (which by the way I can’t wait to throw!!!)

Happy Birthday “PawPaw”- The Birthday Weekend Recap

September 27th: Today is my Dad’s 52nd birthday. Gesh where does the time go? Not that 52 is old, but it makes me laugh because when Ryan and I are 52 our boys will be 30 probably married and having kids of their own. I can’t even picture little J & R at a year old much less 30 years old. Wow. Anyway we spent the weekend with family and enjoy it very much. On Friday I had gone over to my parents house early to help clean up and do a few things around the house since my Mom was taking a half day at work and Uncle Dion, Laurie, Shelbi, Tyler and my grandfather were planning to come over for Dad’s birthday celebration. It started off as a one day event that we were just going to do on Friday, but around our house holidays and birthday are never just single day celebrations. So on Friday night we had all of the Beckners at our house…my little cousins don’t seem so little to me anymore. It was the first time I had seen Tyler is in quite a while and his second, but first true time around the boys other then a quick glimpse last Wednesday. We enjoyed so yummy fajitas and then the men sat around out side talking (about hunting I am sure) and the women and children stayed inside playing with babies. Here are a few pictures of the boys from Friday night:

On Saturday since my sister was in town we also hung at the house. Ryan worked till about 2 and then him and my dad (who have recently been given the name Robin Hood and Little John) played around with their bow and arrows shooting targets while we spent the afternoon outside. Jason got his first experience in water besides the bath tub. He is such a water bug and on Saturday evening when it had cooled down a little I stuck his feed in the water and then proceeded to just his legs. He loved it so I went in and changed and he and I got in the hot tub which was set in the low 90’s. He loved it…I mean really loved it! He was so relaxed and just looked around with his big pretty eyes and enjoyed. It was so cute. Reece did not get in. He too loves bath time, but Reecy-Man is still so little and like a newborn where as Jason has the head holding thing down and is a little bit bigger. Reece’s day will come soon enough though. Here are a few pictures from Saturday:

Sunday was the actual day of my Dad’s birthday. On Saturday night I grabbed white onsies from the stash they have in the closet and painted “Happy B-Day PawPaw” on the front of them. They were rather cheesy, but for a day outside and around the house they turned out cute and kept the boys nice and cool. Early on Sunday my Dad went and pick up his Dad, the boys Great Grand Father, who they hadn’t yet met. They came over at about 10 and my Mom’s sister also joined us for a fish fry lunch. It was so nice to get to see Pawpaw Morris and for him to finally get to see the boys. If you don’t recall he is the one who passed the twin gene on to me. (Gee thanks…haha only kidding) We spent several hours together sitting outside and talking and then my dad drove him back while my sister and I finally spent sometime alone without the babies and got a pedicure. It was the first pedicure I have had since before bed rest in the hospital the second time around while pregnant. You can only imagine how badly I needed it! Ryan and my Mom so kindly took care of J & R while we were gone. Here are some pictures from the visit with PawPaw Morris:

The weekend came to a close with "Robin Hood and Little John" doing some more target practice and then coming in and watching more hunting on the hunting channel. Since my Dad gave Ry the bow and all of the gadgets, the hunting channel and outdoor channel are always on at our house! I can’t stand it, but am glad to see him have a hobby and something he enjoys to do. Here are some pictures from Sunday afternoon:

Changes To Updates

September 25th: I feel like there’s so much that I don’t share about now that the boys do that’s absolutely precious so I am going to try and just blog what’s going on in Word and then when I get online I’ll have to do is copy and paste it. It appears that there are still a lot of readers who follow the boys and I even still despite no longer being pregnant and not having complications. So I will do my best to digitally journal and then when I do post Ill date them, but there will be a lot of postings all at one…

...and we are back!

Let me first begin with we are finally getting sleep! Jason and Reece both have been sleeping pretty good at night. The last few nights both of them have been fighting the initial lay down its time to go to sleep but by 11 it takes place and then they sleep till 5 or 6 the next morning. Sometimes if its close to Ryan having to get up anyways I give him one and I take one and usually the boys will go back to sleep with me in bed till 9:30 or 10. I am loving that! Jason is sleeping in his crib in the baby room but Reece is switching back and forth still between in bed with me and the car seat next to our bed. Both of them only like to sleep on their tummies if they aren’t in bed with me so I let Jason since he is now able to flip and flop and move his head around. Reece on the other hand isn’t at that point yet…

Over the weekend we all had the pleasure to visit with the boys grandparents on Ryan’s side of the family. On Friday I took the boys over that afternoon and Ryan joined us once he got off work. This was one of few times I had both boys with me in the car alone. Ah. I had to stop at Sonic and feed Jason a little because the “snack” before we left wasn’t enough obviously. There is nothing worse than screaming baby while your driving times two! On the way home it was Reece screaming so I had one hand on the wheel and the other reaching behind the seat holding his nunu in his mouth to keep him calm. I hate when both of them cry but especially Reece because it upsets his tummy and then he usually starts spitting up more. Anyway we had a lovely evening with Ryan’s Dad’s family, the boys Great Great Grandma Jackie, Grandma Judi and Judi’s sister June and of course PawPaw Tom. This was Grandma Jackie’s first time to meet little J & R so they were able to get several 5 generation pictures.

On Saturday I got up and cleaned the house and got ready for Ryan’s other grandmother to come over. Granny Jean is Ryan’s Moms mother. This was her first time to see J & R since they had been out of the NICU. Along with her was a dear friend named Helen. Both of them were o delighted to be in the presence of the little munchkins and just adored them. Granny Jean brought in lots of goodies for our pantry and we spent the afternoon chitchatting while Ryan was in bed. Sadly he was yet again sick with a cold.

On Sunday we woke up and got ready for pictures! The boys and I stayed over at my Mom’s because Ryan was sick and I am not about to get them or myself sick or we will really be up a creek without a paddle! Mom helped me a lot with the boys as she usually does and then we had a nearly 2 ½ hour photo session here at the house. One of my moms friends so kindly came out with what seemed to be here entire studio and took pictures of Ryan and I with the boys, individuals of the boys with each of us, some of the just the boys alone and a few of my mom and I with the boys. I cannot wait to see how they turn out. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have them back. Carrie is in the works of editing and going through them. She took a little over 600 shots. I guess with babies you have to take that many to get a few good ones of them looking and not crying. J & R handled it like champs though. They did really good till the end and then they let us know enough was enough.

Well the week seems like it is already lying by and before I know it it will be Friday again. Yesterday my Meme and Pawpaw came out to the house which was wonderful because I got all of my laundry done and took a shower while they loved on J & R. Today I have been over at my Moms since early this morning and am cleaning up her house. Tomorrow I have to take Reece to The Woodlands for his cardio visit and then Thursday I go back to the doctor. I am hoping the rainy weather goes away by the weekend and its cool outside. MY sister will be in town and I would love to take the boys to the park or somewhere outdoors and get some cute pictures and a day out of the house and then on Sunday we are having family over for my Dads birthday. Certainly looking forward to another great photo op!

Our Latest Adventures

Always something…Ryan and I spent last night at the ER. I am anemic (STILL) and my girl time has been very different. Without getting into details I appear to be “healthy” but I had no idea babies could have this kind of effect on my body! We didn’t get in till about 1:30am and believe it or not the wait went y pretty fast. Mainly because the people in the ER were crazy. At one point I thought Ryan, Mrs. Gina and I were going to die laughing and the crazy man who was telling everyone about how vampires were going to be legalized and the world wouldn’t be here in 30 years so we might as well start killing and eating each other. Rather interesting…anyways things seem to be ok. I am still having some issues but was told not to worry and just to take it easy which is something you can’t do with two babies!

Speaking of babies…my little bundles of love are doing rather well. Jason is holding his head up and just loves to look around and take it all on. With Reecy it’s a different story. I laugh because its like I havea nearly 3 month old and a newborn still. Reece is starting to focus more when you talk to him and is just now trying to pick up his head which is something Jason started about 3 ½ weeks ago. It’s so weird because their gestational age according to how they were measuring was about a 4 week difference and now its as though their developmental milestones are spaced out about a month apart. So weird?

Over the weekend we moved the boys stuff from my parents house to mine & Ryan’s. We painted the bedroom the boys are staying in and also changed out the fan and fixtures in the room. It made a huge difference. We would love to replace carpet but don’t want to put that kind of money into the house yet even though it is tempting considering the color and age of the carpet. Haha one step at a time I guess…for now the boys room is the one place in the house that I wanted to make their own. Organization helps so much and before they didn’t have a room…instead they had a house with stuff in every room!

We have tried for the last 2 weeks to get the boys pictures taken. The first weekend Reece had a cold and the second weekend just didn’t work out. Luckily this Sunday we are going to give it another shot! My sister spent an arm & a leg on Halloween costumes for the boys and I cannot wait to dress them up and have pictures made. I am not even going to tell you what they are yet because when you seem them it will be just that much cuter! We are also taking some other pictures…all of which I am very excited about.

The weekend plans include lots of grandparents! On Friday we are going to Grandma Judi & PawPaw Toms (Ryan’s Dads side of the family) to spend time with them and the boys will also meet their great great grandmother and Grandma Judi’s aunt sister for the first time. I believe Ryans Dad will be there too so they will have lots of arms to hold them. On Saturday Granny Jean (Ryans grandmother on his moms side) is coming out to our house. She hasn’t seen the boys since the weekend they were born and can hardly stand it anymore! Then on Sunday after pictures I am sure we will take it easy and spend some time with my parents. It cracks me up because since we moved all of the baby stuff over to the other house my mom has made her own baby haven equipped wither own burp rags, pack n play, bibs, nunu’s, blankets, nose sucker and more! I give it a few months and she will have a crib here too for the little guys. The boys are so lucky to be blessed with such loving families.

I have been promising new pictures so here you go…

Engaged, more sleep, lots of visitors!

So I am getting really bad about updating now that I don’t have internet at my house. So instead of giving you a big lengthy novel I’ll just hit a few our most recent high points!

First of all Ryan proposed last week. It was totally unexpected and I knew eventually it would happen but certainly not last week! Anyways of course I said yes. How did he do it is always the famous question. Well, it’s a funny story. He isn’t a good liar so when he came upstairs to tell me he had to go someplace to help jump somebody’s car who had the jumper cables I thought to myself yah right why do you have to go if they have cables? So anyways he said I just really have to go get something. So while he was gone I finished my bath and when he came home I had on his shorts and t-shirt my hair up in a red and white stripped towel with one screaming baby in my arms and the other upstairs on the monitor. He had a gift in his hands when he came in the door and a big grin and at that point I was so annoyed by the crying I wasn’t thinking much of anything. Anyways while the kids were still screaming he insisted on me opening it so I did and it was an empty bottle he had made with a note on the inside saying how much he loves me and at the end it said will you marry me? Of course I laughed at first and he got down on one knee and proposed with the ring and I said yes. Awww so sweet…in the meantime the kids where still screaming. Very typical lol Here is a picture of the ring.

In other news Ryan and I both had visitors this week. The start of the week kicked off with Ryans best friend, Ryan and then on Tuesday one of my good friends from college came to stay and left today. I was spoiled by here! Every night Jason slept in her bedroom and she would feed J while I took care of Reece. It was so so so nice to only have to deal with one baby for the night. The boys are getting better about sleeping. Jason is sleeping in his crib (on his tummy) and has been going right back to sleep after feedings. The biggest challege is getting himdown for the first time. Reece has been sleeping mostly with me and in his car seat. Hes growing, but I still fear he will choke on the spit up from his reflus. Its stillnot getting any better! He is starting to get over his cold but is still stuffy but again I think it has to do with the reflux.

Jason had a nice little outing with us this past weekend. We went over to the Torres's for Ryans (Ryans friend) birthday and then visited with Ryans Dads family. I still haven't gotten a picture up with Ry's Dad and the boys and the pictures of Ryans friend Ryan and the boys are still on my camera back at the house. I'll have to add those later.

Reece will go back to the doctor the end of next week for a growth check up. They don't have well checkups till 4months but the doctor wants to watch Reece because he has fallen off his growth curve. Maybe he just hasn't hit his growth spurt yet, who knows. Well for today I am finishing laundry and then Ryan and I are going to paint at the house and prepare the boys nursery. My sister is in town for the weekend and J & R can't wait to be spoiled by Aunt Ashy. Hopefully pictures will take place tomorrow for the boys...not sure yet but I have my fingers crossed. My sister bought them halloween costumes but I dont yet know what they are. Oh I can't wait to see them!

2 Month Check- Up

Oh my how my little munchkins are growing up so quickly. Today we had our two month check up. The boys turned two months on Sunday…the doctors visit was actually rather enjoyable. I ran into another twin Mommy there today and that alone just made my day. Kim also has two miracle babies, but I must say hers are even bigger miracles than my little Jason and Reece, but none the less all of them are such sweet blessings. Blake and Owen were actually born before my little guys and were smaller. Needless to day they are big and strong now and the small one of the two is already walking. The entire time I was pregnant after being put in touch with Kim, they became my hope and encouragement that the pregnancy and my boys would all go well.

Jason weighs a whopping 10 pounds 10 ounces and is 22 inches long. Reece is slowly catching up and is 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 18 inches long. I had a long list of questions and concerns to discuss, most of which were minor.

*Constipation- both boys will go 2-4 days like its nothing but grunts and gas with no poopy diaper. I end up using lots of Karo & apply juice to fix the trick. As long as they don’t go 5 days and there’s not blood in the stool she said we should be ok. I was worried about this mainly because Ryans brother, Jason, who passed away had ____________which has to do with the intestines and passing stools. Needless to say this is just something we should monitor since the symptoms aren’t usually very obvious. (Nothing to worry about for now).

*Formula: Jason was changed back to Similac Advance so that he gets less calories and we are also suppose to try and slowly reduce the amount of rice cereal he gets. As for Reece he will stay on the Similac Neosure and we will be changing to oatmeal instead of rice cereal. In three weeks we are going back to check his weight because right now he is starting to fall or the growth curve. Dr. Smoot said it could be that his growth spurt just hasn’t kicked in yet and if in 3 weeks he is still a little behind then we will add calorie packs to his feedings.

*Jason’s Big Toes: Funny, I know! His big toes are growing into the skin. They are usually bright red so I have been putting cream on them. The doctor said its common for the nail to grow at a triangular point and that I should run my fingers under the nails to keep them from sticking to the skin and growing inward.

*Jason’s Penis: Poor kid…the skin had started sticking to the head of the penis and wasn’t below the rim. Dr. Smoot had to pull it back and it started bleeding which we expected to happen. I had noticed when bathing him that it looked funny and when I pulled back on it he screamed so I didn’t mess with it except to wash because I am not to familiar with those little gadgets. (Little girls seem so much easier…boys are all new to me!)

*RSV: We have been told over and over by the neo nurses and doctors and both pediatricians that they need the RSV vaccination. RSV is a really bad respiratory virus that can be deadly and is especially harmful to preemies born before 35 weeks. I’ll soon (next day or so) be posting all about RSV and the precautions we must take. In the past the shot was given pretty freely. Now the guidelines have become stricter and go figure, the boys can’t get the vaccine! Not a good deal! Again, like I said, much more to come about RSV.

*Flu: This is something the pedi brought up and not me. She said flu season has already started and its spreading really quickly. It very important that J & R not get sick. Their immune systems aren’t very strong and because of their size. She said that Ryan and I both need to get shots this weekend and all of those who come in contact with the boys need a flu shot. So get your shots people! If you suspect your getting sick please give I a few days before coming around just for their safety.

Other than that, that’s about all that went on with the exception of their two month immunizations. I held both of their little hands and when the needle got them they had a death grip onto my thumb. It was kind of cute, but also very sad because they screamed so loudly. The worst part was they each had 3 shots and one oral vaccine. After the fact they were both just fine. They slept most of the day and then this afternoon had a good little fuss that sounded like a painful cry. They both got over it with a little TLC, sleep and Tylenol. Thank goodness for my Mom taking off today though! I could not get out in public without help yet all because of their stupid reflux. I can’t count the number of times I had to have lean into the backseat and suck little Reece’s nose while I was driving! I guess it goes without saying, but the boys have defiantly brought me even closer to my Mom which is hard to imagine because we were already so close to begin with! Okay well I must get going. I am actually at my parents’ house now with the boys. Ryan was sick this afternoon. Pretty sure its just allergies, but he wanted to go to bed early so I asked him if he would mind me brining the boys here and he get a solid nights sleep. Just one of the many benefits of living close to the parents still!
